BBM for desktop in the works?

It took quite a while before BlackBerry threw away its hesitation of providing BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) to other platforms. By the time the company unveiled BBM for Android and iOS, the mobile market was filled with cross-platform messaging apps such as WhatsApp, Viber, and Line. The move may be too late, but BlackBerry is conitnuing its cross-platform plans as reports claim that BBM will be heading to Window Phone, as well as a version of BBM for desktop.

In a recent interview with Reuters, BlackBerry CEO John Chen mentioned that his organization is “taking a very serious look” at providing BBM for desktop and laptop computers. This attempt could help make users start a conversation on their PCs and finish it while on mobile.

BBM has enjoyed an increase of 20 million new users since its Android and iOS versions debut, but the service remained at a stagnant 85 million monthly active users. The company remains hushed on details about the BBM for desktop, including release dates and pricing.
