BlackBerry must be screaming, “You REALLY love me!”
The company’s has stated that total downloads for both BBM for iPhone and Android has reached five million in just eight hours after BlackBerry resumed the global roll out of its instant messaging app.
BlackBerry has also alerted the “next 5 million” people that it is their turn to have BBM for iPhone or Android activated.
“Open up BBM and click ‘I got the email’ to get started on #BBM right away,” BlackBerry exclaimed on its BBM Twitter account.
This milestone comes despite the company initiated a reservation system that assures users to “hold your spot in line” and sends them an email telling them they could start using the service. The queueing system is BlackBerry’s way to prevent the server issues that made iPhone and Android users unable to download the app, at least legally.
There is a sad side to this good news, however, as BlackBerry continues to struggle to reclaim its significant share in the smartphone market. On the other hand, it seems like BBM for iPhone and Android has a good chance against the likes of LINE, WeChat, WhatsApp, Kakao Talk, and Viber.
