Bandai Hyper Telescope for Aspiring Astronomers

Japanese toymaker Bandai has introduced the Hyper Telescope, an educational toy for kids who are into astronomy. It allows users to look at the sky and view relevant information either through connected displays or within the telescope itself. Simply specify the location on earth and the current time and the LCD within the device would then display the visible celestial bodies with the help of its virtual star map. The display features three joints and an accelerometer, making telescope viewing more realistic.

The Hyper Telescope from Bandai weighs 600 grams, is battery-powered, and will cost about US$200 when it becomes available in Japan beginning May 29. No word whether it will be sold overseas.
