Recently introduced in the Macworld 2008 Expo, the new Apple Time Capsule is a high-speed, wireless hand drive equipped with a 802.11n Wi-Fi base station. Available in two capacities, the 500GB and 1TB models can carry at least a couple of year’s worth of your data.
The Time Capsule has the same four Ethernet ports of the Airport Extreme – a gigabit Ethernet WAN connector for DSL or cable modem connections and three gigabit Ethernet LAN ports. The three-port gigabit router can support up to 50 users. Once set up on all your Mac networks, a single Time Capsule can automatically backup files wirelessly and constantly. It backs everything up on Macs running with the Leopard program and syncs with the Time Machine utility in the latest Mac OS X operating system. Still, it can be used as a wireless drive both on a Mac and PC.
With the Time Capsule, you can easily create a secure, wireless network at home and back up all your computers cable-free. This slick backup server has its own built-in power supply. Simply plug it in and with just a few clicks, you already have an automatic backup for all your computer files at every hour of the day. You can also connect and transfer files from your iPhone, iPod Touch, Apple TV and all of your other Wi-Fi enabled gadgets. A USB port is available for connecting the Time Capsule to a printer or to another external hard drive.
Like other Apple products, the Time Capsule has the minimalist, white appearance. It is also the same size as the Airport Extreme, but a bit heavier. To add to the slick design is the signature chrome reflective Apple logo on top.
