Apple Criticized for Approving "Gay Conversion" App

Apple faces criticism after approving an app that supposedly guides homosexual people so they can be “cured” and convert to heterosexuality.

The so-called “gay cure” application was designed and named after Exodus International, a religious organization that believes that homosexuals can “set themselves free” with the power of prayer and conversion therapy It is offered free on iTunes and was given a “4+” rating, meaning it is not considered to contain objectionable content.

The app features techniques recommended by Exodus, including abstinence, lessening of homosexual temptations, and strengthening one’s sense of heterosexual identity.

Activists for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) rights quickly gathered more than 37,000 signatures in an online petition persuading Apple to ban the app.
