The iPod and iPhone docks of late have been designed in a streamlined and minimalist style, so it is a bit of a refreshing feeling to see a bulkish dock reminiscent of the boombox that proliferate the streets during the 1980’s.
Altec Lansing, one of the highly-praised audio equipment manufacturers around, have released the Mix iMT800 dock for your iPhone and iPod, whatever generation it might be. You can even plug in up to three devices at the same time with the help of two 3.5 millimeter line inputs, just in case you have a hard time thinking which playlist to groove on.
Despite the really trendy design, music junkies in their late 20s and early 30s would instantly find the Mix iMT800 familiar. With its side-firing 5.25-inch subwoofers, specially-engineered tweeters, and room-filling mids and mid bass, this dock would certainly remind them of the glass-blasting boomboxes, not to mention that it also runs on eight D-cell batteries or on AC.
Other features include a small remote that can clip onto a belt or stored in the dock’s secret remote slot, high-contrast LCD, 7-band graphic equalizer, automatic pause whenever the iPhone receives calls, and it is GSM-shielded so you do not have to turn your iPhone into airplane mode.
The Altec Lansing Mix iMT800 iPod/ iPhone dock is available at authorized retail stores for US$299.
