For this week, we are featuring apps for your entertainment and productivity, as well as something for the aspiring developers.

Djay 2

Djay 2 (algoriddim GmbH, available on iOS) – Users of one of the most popular mobile DJ apps can mix tracks without having to select them from a local storage. The latest Djay 2 update (pictured) integrates Spotify’s immense music library, as well as 30 new audio effects and a number of new samples. Those who have a Spotify Premium account can have access to over 20 million songs waiting to be remixed. Costs $4.99.

Notifyr (Arnoldus Wilhelmus Jacobus van Dijk, available on iOS) – While we are all waiting for iOS 8, this app performs one of several functionalities available in the upcoming OS update. Notifyr enables users to receive lockscreen notifications (similar to Mac computers) with the help of the Bluetooth Low Energy found in iPhone 4S or newer. This is especially useful to those who put their iPhones on silent during work hours. Costs $3.99.

Marco Polo (Matt Wiechec, available on iOS) – Call it a fun way of finding your misplaced iPhone or any other Apple device. When installed, simply shout, “Marco,” and the device answers back with “Polo,” even when it is on silent mode. If you have installed it on different devices, you can customize a different call word for each. Costs $0.99.

Autotext PhraseExpress (Bartels Media GmbH, available on Android) – This productivity app allows users input their frequently used phrases, statistics, and signatures for emails and text messages. The free version lets users store up to 25 items, while an in-app purchase of $4.99 provides storage for unlimited phrases, all organized in handy drop-down menus.

Channel 9 (Microsoft Corporation, available on Windows Phone) – This is one of Microsoft’s several in-house apps for Windows Phone users. Channel 9 is a video broadcast station for developers and tech tinkerers. The channel allows users to watch all the nerdy content. Available for free.
